Working Smarter Not Harder

Working Smarter Not Harder

(This article was received intuitively from my non-physical spiritual “Team.”)

This year, how would you like your work week to go smoothly, easily and seemingly effortlessly with one easy trick? Hang on! Before I give you this one easy trick, let’s review a little bit of history.

Many years ago, I expressed frustration to a friend about work, especially feeling overwhelmed with meeting deadlines. She quietly told me to just wait until I was in the mood to do my work. Well, this did not go over too well, and I responded, “You don’t understand! You don’t deal with demanding clients every day!”  And on I went until she quietly interrupted me and said, “I didn’t tell you to wait forever, just a little while until you feel like working.”

I still thought she was nuts, but because she was older and wiser, I decided to ponder it. Over the years, I have come to see the wisdom of her words, and I implement them on a daily basis getting far more accomplished than I use to when I felt like I was struggling through every project.

Just a little more pertinent info and we will get to the juicy stuff.

First, let us presume that you, for the most part, enjoy what you do. Some of your tasks may seem onerous, boring, etc., but, for the most part, you find your tasks fun and challenging. (If you hate ALL aspects of what you do, then reading this article won’t help: that’s for another article coming soon. Seriously.)

I am going to split this trick/exercise into two categories: 1) those of you who have appointment-based businesses (i.e., chiropractors, therapists, attorneys, etc., and 2) everyone else. Let’s first tackle the “everyone else” category.

Understand first that whatever you are doing—just by your mere existence—you are dealing with unseen energies all around you which you either attract or repel depending on how you are feeling about any particular subject. Yes, this is “Law of Attraction” woo-woo stuff but bear with me anyway.  When you are dreading taking on a specific task (i.e., bookkeeping), then that feeling of dread will attract discordant energies that will make you feel even less like “doing the books.” If you force yourself to start the bookkeeping, then those discordant energies will still be there—and increase—and your work will feel like a struggle, taking two or three times as long as it normally would, with possibly many mistakes. Not only that, but it will feel exhausting, leaving you with less energy for the rest of the day’s tasks.

On the other hand, if you are feeling good about doing the bookkeeping, then you are attracting positive, supportive energies and you will breeze through your work with seemingly little effort—mistakes will be nominal, and you will feel ready for your next task.

So how do you get to the point of feeling eager to do the bookkeeping when you are dreading it? Just follow these easy steps:

1) Make a list of everything you intend to accomplish that day or week, in no particular order.

2) Close your eyes and breathe deeply for a few minutes. Ask your Higher Self what task would go most smoothly for you at this time, then review the list with the intent of seeing one of those items “light up.”

3) Start with that one task which should go quite smoothly for you. Accomplishing this first task shifts your energy to be more in line with taking on the next task, and so on.

4) If necessary, repeat steps 2 and 3 until your tasks are completed.

After a few days of this exercise, you will find yourself easily homing in on the projects that grab your attention first. Please resist working on a project until you feel your energy “line up” with it. I want you to be able to look back after a week or so and notice any differences in your productivity.

Now for those of you who have a full line-up of clients that you must see and cannot “wait until it feels good,” here’s an exercise for you:

1) Sit down with your schedule the night before or early the next day and review your clients/patients.

2) Take a few minutes to breathe deeply.

3) Think of all of the people you will be meeting with that day, whether they are first-time clients or ones you have worked with for a long time. Remind yourself that they have specifically sought you out because they felt you were the right person to help them; they trust you and are hopeful that your particular skills and expertise will benefit them.

4) Feel gratitude and honored that so many have faith in your abilities; and feel gratitude for the talents you were given, and for the education you received that enables you to assist so many people.

5) Acknowledge that sometimes your clients or patients can leave you feeling drained. Working in such close proximity to those who are stressed in some way may cause you to unintentionally take on some of that discordant energy. Again, take a few deep breaths and ask for a protective “bubble of light” to surround you, intending the bubble to act as a barrier between their energy and yours. Don’t hesitate to reinforce your bubble after each client. If you feel so inclined, ask your Higher Self to clear the energy for you.

After a week or so of utilizing these simple steps, you should be moving through your day with more ease and grace.
